Weekend of Fun

Derek and I needed a weekend to go out and have fun! So we did just that.  Starting with our favorite local hotspot - Donn's Depot.  Donn's is the old Austin train depot turned into one of the best bars - at least in our opinion.  There is always an amazing band playing, and then you mix that with great friends, dancing, and the BEST people watching, you are just setting yourself up for a successful night!

Sunday morning we headed out to Dad and Sally's.  We had a great day filled with Coopers, airplanes, tractors, and bluebonnets.  If that doesn't spell out Texas Hill County - I'm not really sure what does!

Baby Davis' first time at Coops.  Normally he kicks all day, but I think he is even in a food coma.  So good and so worth it!
 Coopers on 3 ...
 MEAT!
Oh yes, this is happening ... a picture says a thousand words.  I think this is hysterical.  I feel like I am regressing back to my Poolville, TX roots.  Let's just call this a Texas hill country limo ride around the Llano airport.

Not my favorite pic, but I wanted to post for the memories.  The bluebonnets are amazing and out in full force!!  I love the hill country during this time of year.  Note to self - take selfies BEFORE you have a gluttonous day at Coopers :)

Thankful for Sisters!

I just had one of those weeks, and it all came crashing down Friday afternoon.  So who do you call to vent and let it all out ... YOUR SISTER!  (And believe me, I let it all out - ha!)  Ali is great - she knows how to listen and then provide her support and encouragement when needed, while most importantly - shooting it to you straight.  I wanted to post her note that she sent so I can reference this in the future.  These were just the words I needed to hear, and so thankful that she felt called to send this.
Thanks Ali - love you!!

Stop trying to work things outbefore their times have come. Accept the limitations of living one day at a time. When something comes to your attention, ask Me whether or not it is part of today’s agenda. If it isn’t, release it into My care and go on about today’s duties. When you follow this practice, there will be a beautiful simplicity about your life: a time for everything, and everything in its time.
A life lived close to Me is not complicated or cluttered. When your focus is on My Presence, many things that once troubled you lose their power over you. Though the world around you is messy and confusing, remember that I have overcome the world. I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have Peace.
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.
—Ecclesiastes 3:1

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
—John 16:33

26 Weeks

This is a graffiti wall on Jo's Coffee on South Congress.  It has become the hot picture spot in Austin for tourists and locals over the past couple of years.  Even though this is pretty cliché for Austin locals, I still love the message.  We took some of our engagement pictures, post wedding pictures, and now some baby pictures.  I think it is fun that this Austin staple has been a great memory in every chapter of our lives.

SXSW

After a week of training in Palo Alto, I am pretty impressed with myself that I continued the fun and went to some of the outings at SXSW.  It helped that Ali, mom, Hudson, and Ryder came in town.  I didn't make it to everything that I used to, but it was fun to all hang out and enjoy the Austin festivities.
Texas Music Festival at Scholtz's Beer Garden - the SXSW staple
 Family Friendly!
My Leading Ladies - love all of my besties!!  Casey, Vicki, Ali, Jenni
Love it when mom comes to visit!
Hudson loved playing with Derek at our park - and I must say this was great practice for Derek :).  They were inseparable!

Dad hiding behind the balloons - AMAZING!

Mom and Charles came in town 2 days after we found out we were having a boy. We all wanted to tell each other/find out in person.  I was having the hardest time not telling her on the phone, so we just didn't talk, text, and we kept everything off of Facebook so there was no way they would find out before we told them.  Finally they arrived!!

Fun Facts - 20 weeks:
1) Boy
2) Heart rate - 155 beats/min
3) 20.7 cm long

Journal Entry - February 7th, 2014

Journal Entry - February 7th, 2014

We found out today that we are having BABY BOY DAVIS! We are thrilled.  Our dreams and paternal instincts were right from week 8.  Derek had 3 very lucid little boy dreams, and I had 2.  It is just so crazy, or really amazing how God can speak through dreams.  I was so anxious the entire day.  I kept counting down the hours until our appointment.  Even though it didn't snow/ice in Austin, I was happy to have a Texas winter day and work from home with Derek.  However, I had to keep reminding myself that this is first and foremost Derek's special day - His 30th birthday!!  We both thought it was so cool to find out on such a momentous day.

We arrived at our Doctors office promptly at 3pm, and didn't even notice that Dad & Sally were sitting in the parking lot.  Derek was taking care of business at the front desk while I did my routine checks, and we didn't even notice that they snuck in behind us.  The were sitting behind Derek the entire time - WHAT A SURPRISE!  They had a boy and a girl balloon.  When we came out of the sonogram room, Dad gave Derek his pocket knife to poke a hold in the balloon that it wasn't ... in this case the girl balloon.

In the sonogram room - so much fun to see our little one again.  He was kicking all day, I think to tell me Hi and the we couldn't wait to see "the babe".  However, at our appointment the babe was face down, cozy and comfortable - with no intention of moving.  I think he already might be a little snuggler.  The sonatech informed us that we was not cooperating like he should, and she had to shake my belly several times to try to get him to turn over.  Besides finding out the sex, the most amazing part was watching his heartbeat on the screen.   It was so cool, and such an awe inspiring site to know that God's creation just knows what to do and how to function - I am just the vessel.  The heart rate was 155 beats per minute.  Everything else about the babe was perfect, 4 chamber heart, no cleft pallet, 5 fingers(even though he was tight fist most of the time), strong legs and feet, and a developing brain.  Finally the babe turned over to let us know HE IS A BOY!  Derek's reaction was priceless, he yelled "REALLY??" to where the nurses 2 doors down and everybody in the lobby could hear him.

We also received a little gift from our Doctor, Baby Boy Davis' first book.  It is a rendition of Dr.Seuss "Oh the Places You Will Go", except titled - "Oh BABY, the Places You Will Go - A Book to be read in Utero" - So precious!d

After the appointment we went with Dad & Sally to Matt's El Rancho to celebrate for Derek's birthday dinner.  All in all, what a fabulous day.  Well worth the 20 week wait.  I love my husband and our brand new baby boy!

First Baby Bump Picture - 20 weeks

Ali made me do it, and I am so glad I listened.

Telling the Family

It was killing me that I couldn't tell my family right away.  However, I knew that I could not break this news over the phone - I wanted to tell them in person and see their reactions.  Luckily Alison/Eric were coming in town for a wedding, which means that mom was coming to help with Ryder, and then Dad/Sally were visiting everybody as well ... It was PERFECT!

Ryder breaking the news to everybody :)
Workout on Lake Travis with mom!

To bad I couldn't enjoy the swim up bar this time.  Note to self - going back to Lakeway resort in the summer when I am not pregnant :)

12 week Journal Entry

Journal Entry - Tuesday, December 10th.

I want to write everything down tonight so I don't forget anything!  Today was one of the most exhilarating, amazing, and loving days.  Derek and I were able to see our baby clearly and hear the heartbeat for the first time.  Words can truly not express the overwhelming and loving feelings that consumed us.  For me, this was the first time I really felt attached and connected with our child.  I always felt guilty that I didn't really feel that connection at our first appointment. but after today I know now the love of a mother to their child ... and this is just the beginning.

At this time, I am reminded about the passage in Psalms.  He has known us even before we were a glimpse on this earth.  God has created us in His own image and knows every crevice, every hair, every inch of His creation.  I always knew and believed this growing up, but this truly sank in today.  Seeing our child today, with a rounded head kicking legs and arms, rolling around in there is truly God's miracle and gift to us.
"Behold, Children are a gift of the Lord ... the fruit of the womb is a reward." Psalms 127:3-5
I can honestly say, this is one of the closest days I have felt to the Lord and my husband.  He is so powerful, and His creations are such a miracle.  Derek and I are truly blessed to experience this together.

I also keep thinking that God provided this child to us knowing that we will be the best parents to this girl or boy.  He specifically chose us - how cool is that?!?  My prayer is not only for a healthy growing baby, but really for Derek and I to be Godly parents to our children and teach them in the best possible manner.  Always reverting back to God's grace and love as the example He has given us.

TO OUR BABY:
I already love you whole heartedly.  Even though you are only 12 weeks old, you are growing at such an incredible rate.  I am so honored and blessed that I will be your mom.  I pray for you daily, not just as you develop, but for your life to come.  I love you so much and cant wait to hear your little heartbeat in 4 more weeks.

Seeing Baby Davis for the First Time

This is our first ultrasound.  It was pretty astonishing to see this little bean sprout.  Derek and I were mesmerized!  To be honest, I was still pretty nervous - didn't really know what or how to feel.  Of course I was excited, but I was very anxious as well ... I just found out I was going to be a mom.  So weird at first.  Derek was absolutely wonderful and very supportive from the beginning.  I don't know what I would do without him!!
We also found out that our due date is June 24th, the same day as my youngest niece Ryder.  It is also on the same week as Father's Day, my sisters birthday - June 20th, any my nephew's birthday - June 22nd.  Can you tell we are family?  We just wanted to make it easy for everybody to remember one week out of the year :)

Sunday Oct. 20 - Livestrong Ride, and then Some ...

We woke up early like any typical race morning.  Derek was participating in the 60 mile Livestrong ride on Sunday October 20th.  Unaware of anything, we documented the race with early morning pictures as we typically do.   I am so proud of him when he participates in rides like this.  In a true "Gist" fashion, I feel like I have to document every moment with a picture.  Well... good thing I did, because just a few hours later I took a pregnancy test and as you guessed, it was positive.
The bad news about these rides is that they take anywhere from 4-6 hours depending on the mileage.  So just imagine all of the emotions I was going through after taking the test and waiting for Derek to cross the finish line!!
Dropping Derek off at the start line in the morning.
 Crossing the finish line

It's Positive!

Our Very Own Blog - FINALLY!!!

Welcome to the The Daily Davis!! I finally gave into my sister's commands -- I am starting our own blog, specifically to track pictures, events, and feelings of our first baby. I have been writing in my journal, but I guess I will join the new world and post everything on the blog.  Hope our family and friends enjoy.  Here is a little glimpse of what has been going on with Derek, me, and Baby Boy Davis over the past 6 months.
